Center for Peace and Religious Studies. Rome, Italy
This project, entitled “Web of Peace,” is a manifestation of context and site, which playful contrast with traditional Italian typologies to yield a space exemplary of the Roman palazzo-piazza typologies with a contemporary and contextual twist. Across the Via Claudia sits the ruin of an old nymphaeum wall (a fountain wall at the end of an aquaduct). This seven-meter-high wall creates an imposing directional axis within the site, directing the view along it to the Colosseum at its terminus. By using a substantial wall of latticework to balance the two sides of the street, the project references the imposing Temple of the Deified Claudis that once stood across the road.
This web of latticework wraps a majority or the western and northern facades and defines a protected piazza which acts as a large loggia. This loggia contains entrances to the auditorium at the southern end, and has a storfront level running parallel to the Via Claudia. Above the cafe, restaurant and bookshop hang a series of isolated reading and contemplation spaces, each of which is connected to its respective main floor with a suspended walkway. The roof terrace is easily accessable from the exterior stair that winds its way through the building, ending in a spectacular view of the colosseum.Architecture2013 -
The Cooper-Meier gallery is a project begun in 2011 when Ron and Shelley Cooper contacted Jake Rudin and Erin Pellegrino to work on their recently purchased Ithaca residence. The house is the design of renowned Cornell alumnus Richard Meier, begun while he was in his final year of school at Cornell. The house was conceived as an apartment and barn to be built upon an existing foundation. The recent renovation includes the design of a large space previously used as tractor storage. It now serves as a home and gallery and will be completed in Spring 2013. The gallery has already opened to the public on October 20th, 2012 with the hopes of continuing the exhibition of both locally and globally renowned artists. In addition to the design work on the gallery, the project also includes the design and fabrication of a stainless steel doorknocker; created to match Meier’s original design.Architecture2012 -

The Star Ferry Terminal is one of the major gateways from Kowloon to Hong Kong. By redeveloping the terminal as a tripartite structure with a ground-level transportation center for buses and ferries, a raised plate containing a restaurant, grocery store, school, cinema, and other amenities, and a secondary ground plain with pencil towers perched high in the air, the terminal becomes it's own community. The project is raised some 20 meters above the transportation park below to allow for visitors and passengers to see the beautiful Hong Kong skyline across the harbor and to allow the people residing in the pencil towers to maintain a certain amount of privacy on such a busy site.Architecture2013 -

Winner of in-house competition at iBR, selected by client for construction (expected 2014).
The facade concept for the Longhua Factory is a very simple concept that allows for a very beautiful result. The idea is to minimize the number of windows to keep cost down and to shade the operable windows to allow the building to function more effectively.
The organic green form wraps around the southern face of the building going from the stairwell, to the green space on the first floor, up along the storage areas, and across the rooftop structure to finally drop down the eastern stairwell.Architecture2013 -
Cornell University Sustainable Design
My role in the completion of this student design-build project was on-site manager and outreach coordinator.
I helped to fundraise, promote and construct an early childhood development center in Cosmo City, Johannesburg, South Africa. Raised over $500,000 and reached press including CNBC Africa, Levi's, and Pepsi Co.

Engendered from the inherent qualities of its milieu—an orthogonal site with a gentle slope towards the west and framed by three avenues—Canopy of Light is a project that aims to revitalize the Cosmo City community with a crèche that will provide children with an enriching educational experience. Organized in a series of thresholds—from public to private, services to education—Canopy of Light frames surrounding views while providing a functional space oriented North-South to take advantage of passive-solar heating in the winter, while large overhangs and a covered walkway provide shade during the summer.Architecture2013 -

Richard Meier: Artistic Conscience explores the relationship between art and architecture as seen through the artistic conscience of Cornell alumnus and Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier (B.Arch. '56). This exhibition offers a glimpse into the creative processes behind the architecture, through works in four mediums — collage, sculpture, architectural drawing and scale models. Examples of Meier's personal artistic explorations are presented alongside drawings and models of two unbuilt projects proposed for Cornell University's campus: Cornell Undergraduate Housing (1974) and Alumni & Admissions Center (1988). This installation integrates the abstract and seemingly chaotic nature of Meier's artwork with the order and geometry characteristic of his architecture.Exhibition Design2012 -
Trafalgar Square is Britain’s most visible public space and arranged around the open space are the icons of its lost Empire. It displays how Great Britain was supreme on the battlefield (Nelson’s Column), cultured (National Gallery), had an empire (Canada and South Africa House), a monarchy (Admiralty Arch) a government (view down Whitehall) and divine guidance (St. Martin’s Church). The Travulgar Square project continued the translation of city mood into built form, but this time not in the image of Imperialism, but as a mirror of late bourgeois consumer culture.Exhibition Design2012 -
Born in 1957 in Cologne, Germany, Simon Ungers was the son of accomplished architect Oswald Mathias Ungers. He moved to the United States in 1968, and studied architecture at Cornell from 1975 to 1980. Throughout his career, Ungers was unique in his ability to bind the two disciplines of architecture and fine art. He maintained his architectural practice and artist studios in both New York and Cologne. During his life, Ungers received critical acclaim for his T-House in Wilton, New York, and the Cube House in Ithaca, New York. He won many architectural competitions including first prize for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, Germany, but his design was not realized.
Ungers's artistic practice referenced his background in architecture. His work has been exhibited in such institutions as SFMOMA, San Francisco, California; MoMA, New York City; Palazzo Pitti, Florence, Italy; Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt, Germany; and the Whitney Museum of Art, New York City.Exhibition Design2012 -
A case study of topography and site context, this project tries to identify where site and building connect in one of the most topographically-driven towns in the world. During the course of the year, the tides rise and fall around this incredible cathedral complex allowing for access only through a single road.Architecture2013 -
The library {Boks} for Hammondsport, NY was derived from the study of the site with an object-vessel. Using this object to document the site, that same object then becomes part of the site; a box within the landscape.Architecture2013 -
The result of an intensive site study of the Arts Quad on Cornell's Campus, the Mirror Installation is a series of five mirrors placed on the eastern side of the quad to reveal the voids of the western side that are so critical in maintaining the rhythm of the space.Photography2013 -
The abandoned mine on an unknown mountainous site stems from a series of studies of form and line using wooden sticks and drawing to create a three dimensional object. That object was then scaled and mined for information that would then aid in its transition into "building." The result is an outpost that serves as a lookout point for visitors to the abandoned mine.Architecture2013 -
Ground to Crown is a short-form documentary about four young tree climbers and their journey to climb old growth Giant Sequoia trees in California. Scaling the dizzying heights of some of the tallest trees in North America, their efforts not only assist researchers from University of California at Berkley, but also give them a unique perspective on the forests and their place in it.
